The Legend of Little Phil - parts 1 & 2

Note to reader:

In the fall of 2008, a new Bacon Boy joined us...this is his story.

The Legend of Little Phil

Parts 1 & 2

It all began in the fall of 2004. The Bacon Boys had just spent a gloomy, rainy and luckless morning fishing and were searching for a spot to prepare a warm shore lunch. Not finding a good location, the Boys were about to give up when Phil suddenly stood up, pointed to the shore and said, with a glimmer in his eye, “I am on the edge” ( On the edge is Bacon-speak for Phil having to go to the toilet.) As we pulled up to the shore, the clouds parted and a beam of sunshine lit up the clearing before us. This was indeed a magical spot.

As the other Boys went about their business preparing lunch, Phil prepared himself for his own business. Down a short trail that led from the clearing, Phil found an old hollowed-out log. He placed the log behind a fallen oak tree, sat himself down and let his thoughts wander ... and as he dreamt, the lines from his favorite story came to him…

“Oh, Figaro, look!
Look! A wishing star!
Starlight, star bright, first star I see tonight...
I wish I may, I wish I might have the wish I make tonight.
Figaro, you know what I wish?
I wish that my little Pinocchio might be a real boy.
Wouldn't that be nice? Just think!
A real boy!
A very lovely thought...
but not at all practical.
A real...
...boy.”

Le avventure di Pinocchio - Carlo Collodi 1881
